Govt seeks to cut short summer break period

Imphal, May 05 2026: The Director of Education (S) has written to the Commissioner Education (S) seeking to curtail the period of summer vacation for schools.

Schools in Manipur have been experiencing frequent closures due to prevailing law and order situations, which have adversely affected the smooth functioning of academic activities, particularly impacting students' learning outcomes.

In order to compensate for the resultant loss of instructional hours and to ensure completion of the prescribed academic curriculum, it is of the considered view that the duration of the summer vacation may be curtailed, said the letter.

The period of the summer vacation from June 8 to June 27, which was notified on January 15, may be revised to June 15 to June 27, said the letter.
