Imphal, June 04 2024:
Setting his priorities straight after winning the Lok Sabha election, Dr Bimol Akoijam has said that he will try his level best to expose the things which the Government is trying to sweep under the carpet and resettle the people displaced in the course of the violence in Manipur to their original places.
Dr Bimol was very categoric in giving the statement to a group of media persons at Imphal West DC complex at Lamphel while coming to collect his election winning certificate.
While interacting with the media persons, the MP elect continued that India had many cases of violence but all of them ended in some days.
Saying that the issue in Manipur crossed the one year mark on May 3, 2024 with thousands of families displaced and hundreds of people killed but with no solution in sight, Dr Bimol added that the response given by the Centre and the State Government to the protracted issue in Manipur is nothing but an insult to the people of the State.
Further stating that the mandate he received is only an expression of the voice of discontentment of the people, the MP elect added that the mandate of the people is a warning to the NDA Government for taking the people of Manipur for granted.
Only Meeteis don't represent Manipur and every Manipuri believes in peaceful coexistence, he added.
Saying that he will never engage in communal politics, Dr Bimol asserted that he will instead stand against those who indulge in communal politics.
Dr Bimol further stated that he had never demonised any Kuki and whatever he had said were against only those Kuki elites who indulge in divisive and communal politics and try to distort the history of Manipur.
The MP elect also said that he will work in tandem with the people to stand against any attempt to distort the history of the land.
Recounting that he had been taking out a campaign to make the election free and fair even before joining electoral politics, Dr Bimol added that he will continue to work at the grassroot level to not let corruption and muscle power sway the minds of the voters.
Dr Bimol went on to assure that he will do everything in his power to deliver the 13 point memorandum he had given to the people.
Notably, the 13-point agenda in the manifesto include fixing accountability for ongoing violence & justice for Internally Displaced Persons (LDP); support for Constitutional protection such as Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for Meetei/Meitei; support for population policy & NRC; formation of Economic Development Task Force; educational empowerment initiative; intercommunity dialogue & collaboration initiative; governance accountability&oversightinitiative; centre for indigenous arts & cultural integration; formation of a Socio-economic & Education Status Assessment Committee; paradigm shift from military lens to civilian governance; rebuilding the brand Manipur; administrative reforms; and strengthening Manipur's position under the federal polity of India.
