Exercise caution while going to field: Police

The Manipur police have urged the public, particularly farmers, to exercise caution and inform local police or security forces before engaging in farming activities in vulnerable or sensitive areas, following recent security concerns in farming areas.
It may be mentioned that an elderly farmer from the Meitei community was shot at by suspected insurgents at Phubala in Bishnupur district on June 19.The Police Control Room (PCR), in a statement issued today, stated that security measures have been strengthened to ensure farmers' safety and prevent untoward incidents during the farming season.
According to the PCR, a combined headquarters meeting was held on June 28, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Security Advisor, with the Chief Secretary and DGP in attendance.
The meeting reviewed security measures for farmers and discussed ways to prevent incidents like the recent Phubala firing, where a farmer was shot in the left arm by unidentified miscreants, it added.
Stating that Manipur police personnel have been deployed in vulnerable farming areas across the hills and valley to support Central security forces in safeguarding farming activities, the control room added that Central security forces have also been redeployed in the vicinity of Phubala area to bolster security measures.
The Police Headquarters has issued alert messages to Superintendents of Police, directing them to implement heightened security protocols for farming and cultivation activities, it said and maintained that senior police officers are also overseeing the security arrangements at vulnerable areas.
The PCR further stated that joint combing operations are being regularly conducted in fringe areas and deep within the hills to flush out miscreants.
Flying squads and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have also been established, and district administrations and police have also held several meetings.
