AMBA office inaugurated

Imphal, April 03 2011: The newly constructed office building of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) has been inaugurated today by works Minister K Ranjit Singh at the Cheirap Court Complex.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ranjit highlighted responsibility of the legal practitioners to work effectively in order to bring down rate of criminal activities in Manipur where various forms of crime, unseen or unheard of in other parts of the world, had been taking place periodically.

Conveying that the AMBA building constructed was taken up at a total cost of Rs 65.77 lakhs, he also informed construction of two other court complexes would be completed by April 15 .

Conceding that there is need for establishing court complexes in each of the district for expeditious disposal of cases, the Minister also informed that efforts are on to provide necessary infrastructure of courts in Senapati, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul district headquarters to facilitate resumption of legal activities at the earliest.

While the Court in Chandel district is awaiting function, construction work for the Kangpokpi court is almost complete, he said and stated that in case of Senapati district construction work was undertaken at a cost of Rs 42 lakhs.

Further disclosing that there was a case of abduction of the contractor assigned to construct the senapati court building which led to cessation of construction work inspite of Rs 5 lakh been taken as ransom money, the Minister suggested that all concerned submit proposals for court building construction so that the same could be finalised for inclusion in the work programme.

Ranjit also allayed apprehension among the legal circle that functioning of Tripura High Court would precede Manipur with the assurance to those present at the occasion that High Court building of Manipur would be completed ahead of Tripura's.As guest of honour of the inaugural programme, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar stressed on the need for an effective judiciary system in the State while gauhati High court Imphal Bench Judge Justice Asok Potsangbam recounted humble existence of the Bar Association in the State since about 37 years back and inconveniences faced by the legal practitioners owing to lack of office infrastructure.

Justice Mutum Binoykumar, AMBA president S Brajabihari, Advocate General N Koteshwor, Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench Registrar NG Max Phazang, Manipur East District and Sessions Judge Ph Surendra and his Manipur West counterpart K Bipinchandra were also present at the occasion.
