Imphal, August 02 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has stated that Manipur is facing unprecedented constitutional challenges, fundamental rights violations, and social justice issues.
Speaking at the second session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) National Conclave in New Delhi today, he highlighted the State's dire situation since May 3, 2023, where over 60,000 people have been displaced and forced to seek refuge in relief camps set up in community halls, school buildings, and other temporary shelters.
The programme was held under the theme "Religion and the Constitution: Guardrails and Guidelines" .
K Meghachandra questioned how long the internally displaced people (IDPs) would be forced to live in relief camps, asking when they would be able to return to their homes.
Lamenting the deepening of religious divides in Manipur, evident in the burning of Churches and Temples, he asserted that the Constitutional promise of fraternity has collapsed in the State.
He said that India is not a Hindu rashtra, a Muslim land, or a Christian country, but a secular Nation.
Several AICC leaders attended the programme.
