Imphal, July 02 2025:
It has turned out that 42-year old Seema Sahani was allegedly murdered by her own husband as a part of his plan to get a second wife.
Accused Md Mujibur Rahman (45) s/o (late) Md Abdur Rahman of Keikhu Maning Leikai was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East after completion of the police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody by a team of Porompat police station yesterday.
During interrogation in police custody, the accused husband admitted that he has two daughters but no son, and he was planning to get a second wife, an APP of the State submitted before the Court.
Moreover being a jobless person, there were frequent arguments between Md Mujibur Rahman and his wife regarding financial matters which added more fuel to the situation and lured him to take the extreme step of murdering his own wife.
On the fateful night of June 21, after having dinner he took one knife from the kitchen and hid it under the mattress while the victim was in the kitchen packing candles which were meant for sale.
Later the victim came to the room and slept.
Soon after Seema Sahani fell asleep, Mujibur Rahman took out the knife, exerted pressure on the victim's body with his left knee, and slit the victim's throat with the knife.
After that, he stabbed his wife thrice on the right shoulder to ascertain whether the victim was still conscious or not.
Upon observing no reaction from the victim, the accused threw the knife towards the garden in the front of the ground floor stair (eastern side of the house) and asked his daughters to wake up shouting "Huranba Lak e" (thieves are here) .
He then went downstairs, unlocked the stair door and walked towards the toilet and came back to the first floor.
Later, the victim's daughters lit up the bulb of the veranda and went inside their mother's bedroom.
On seeing the condition of their mother, the daughters shouted "Ema Kallu" (save mother) and the victim was evacuated to Kripadarshini Advance Hospital by their relatives.
However Mujibur Rahman stayed behind at the spot and taking advantage of the situation, he picked up the knife and washed it with water and placed it in the previous location.
The statement of the accused was recorded in presence of an Executive Magistrate and the knife used in committing the crime was recovered and seized at the instance of the accused.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused husband in judicial custody till July 14 .
