AR assists Govt in clearing Naga River

The Assam Rifles has assisted the State authorities in clearing Naga River.
In a statement, IGAR (South) said that the Assam Rifles was requested by the State authorities to assist in clearing Naga River to alleviate the devastating effects of the recent flood.
Saying that the Assam Rifles deployed their personnel and equipment to undertake desilting and clear debris to reduce water stagnation, it added that the Assam Rifles personnel cleared a portion of Naga River stretching about 1000 metres.
Further stating that two Officers, one Junior Commissioned Officer and 20 other holding different ranks cleared the debris for over four hours, the IGAR (S) added that the flow of Naga River has enhanced after the desilting and clearing of the debris.

"This crucial intervention is expected to significantly reduce water stagnation by at least 2 feet immediately in the flood-affected areas," it said .
Saying that Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, also visited the site and interacted with the Assam Rifles team and the residents, the statement added that the visit of the Minister underscored the commitment of the Government to provide comprehensive support to the affected regions.
The IGAR (S) said that Assam Rifles has also been providing medical assistance to the flood affected population.
Dedicated medical camps are currently in progress at the relief camps set up at Mother Teresa Home near Mantripukhri and at ISBT, it added.
Saying that the medical team of Assam Rifles has screened 828 individuals including 464 women and 116 children, the IGAR (S) added that medicines were also given to those who need them free of cost.
In addition to the medical camp, a mobile toilet has also been installed specifically for the women inmates of the relief camp at Mantripukhri, it continued.
