Imphal, May 02: The proscribed UNLF has today claimed that a special team of the 293 Bn of the MPA destroyed a fully loaded vehicle of the Assam Rifles in an ambush near Joupi in Chandel district yesterday at about 6 am.

In a statement, the outfit claimed that the MPA cadres ambushed a three vehicle convoy of the Assam Rifles at a spot located about 10 kms from Joupi.

The first vehicle was directly hit by a rocket as well as lethod bombs, said the outfit and added that it would be a miracle if any of those in the vehicle survived.

The ambush totally took the AR personnel by surprise, said the outfit and added that the attack was carried out by a six member special team of the MPA, 293 Bn.

All the cadres have returned safe and sound to the headquarters.

The Military Affairs Council has congratulated the team.

In another statement, the outfit said that another group of the 293 Bn MPA attacked the Assam Rifles post near Molcham village.

During the attack, the MPA cadres used heavy artilleries including 81 mm and 60 mm mortar and rocket launcher.

Some of the 81 mm mortars directly hit the post, claimed the outfit but added that there is no confirmed report of any casualty.

Meanwhile refuting the claims of AR, the UNLF today debunked the story that two youth arrested by 34 AR personnel are members of UNLF.

Referring to a news report as published in a newspaper on May 1, the outfit said that two persons identified as Thokchom Naobi (26) of Lamding Elangbam Leikai and Khundrakpam Sanathoi, were arrested on April 29 from Wangjing Keithel by 34 AR men.

The claim that the two are members of the UNLF is totally false and baseless, asserted the outfit.

It also rubbished the report that one 9 mm pistol was recovered from their possession as well as the claim that Naobi is a Lt of the outfit bearing army number 1239.The two have nothing to with the UNLF, it said and questioned why the AR always claims that so and so is a cadre of the UNLF, while the fact stands contrary to their claim.

Maybe such false claims improves their service record, it mocked.
