Shops closed to protest monetary demands

Imphal, September 01: Decrying monetary demands served to the shops located alongside Dingku Road by one banned armed organisation, all the shops have shut down since this morning.

The UG group served demand notes to all the shops located on both sides of Dingku Road from Khongnang Ani Karak to Khuman Lampak Sports Complex gate.

The amounts demanded from each shop varied according to the size of capital invested in each establishment.

According to a source, the particular UG group demanding money from these shops is KYKL.

However, the truth of the matter could not be ascertained as a team of reporters who went there could not meet any shopkeeper.

In a similar case, shopkeepers staged a protest demonstration at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai on August 28 against KYKL's monetary demand.

Similar protests have also been staged in the recent past by shopkeepers in different parts.
