Imphal, July 01 2024:
Claiming that it is unconventional to replace generals during wars, Chief Minister N Biren has asserted that the rumour about someone replacing him as the State's Chief Minister is a false propaganda floated by the Opposition party.
The Chief Minister officially launched three new criminal laws during a function held at MSFDS auditorium, Palace Compound here today.
The three new criminal laws came into effect from today across the country.
Responding to a query raised by media persons on the sideline of the function about the credibility of social media posts and news reports published in some sections of the media that he would be replaced by someone else, the Chief Minister rejected all those posts and reports as false and baseless.

He went on to ask, "How can a General be replaced in the midst of a war? "In the midst of the State's critical situation, I would not be daunted and there is no question of stepping down from being the leader of the State Government", Biren said.
"If I and my Cabinet Ministers resign in the midst of the current crisis, who would protect the citizens?," he asked.
Claiming that a large number of people still have their faith in his Government, Biren appealed to all media houses and social media users not to publish/spread unconfirmed reports.
Although a handful of people feel jubilant on seeing such false reports, 90 per cent of the people feel worried and they don't want replacement of the Chief Minister during this critical period, Biren claimed.
It is rather unfortunate that some National media have been publishing false reports on the Manipur crisis, Biren said before appealing to all the National media to come to Manipur, collect reports from the field and publish only correct reports.
He appealed to certain National media houses including The Wire not to amplify and further complicate the Manipur issue by publishing false reports.
He further appealed to all the media to publish only the true reports and help in resolving the Manipur crisis.
On being enquired about the news report published in some sections of media that the Chief Minister of Manipur never took any appointment with the Prime Minister since the crisis broke out, N Biren maintained that he communicated with the Prime Minister's Office for appointment with Narendra Modi and as advised by the PMO, he has been keeping constant touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah so as to bring a solution to the Manipur crisis.
