Imphal, September 30 2026: Former UNLF leader RK Sanayaima has categorically stated that merely observing the birth or death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot would not be enough to build the society he had envisioned.

The Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Ningshing Lup (LHNL) observed the 130th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Khongman Mangjil Community Hall in Imphal East today.

Speaking at the event as chief guest, Sanayaima said that the youth must be properly nurtured and disciplined to build a society free from the subjugation of people and where all communities coexist harmoniously, as envisioned by Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.

He said that the life of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was an example of sacrifice, dedication and commitment to the welfare of the people.

During the observance, floral tributes were paid to the photo of Irabot.

The programme was also attended by LHINL president Thangjam Subashchandra, Senior Advocate Thokchom Modhu, Oriental Club president Hijam Pakasana and Patriot's Day Observance Committee president Waikhom Amuchou Meitei among others.

A similar programme was also held at Classic Grande at Chingmeirong.

The programme was organised by United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur under the theme "Towards an inclusive & united Manipur, remembering a legacy, celebrating shared history and reaffirming unity" .

Addressing the function as chief guest, Sanayaima appealed to the youth to come forward and work towards safeguarding Manipur.

He also appealed to people from all communities to work together for the welfare of the motherland.

Sanayaima said that Irabot's ideals reflected the discipline and dedication that distinguished him from others.

He also said that Irabot took part in the international Marxist movement along with other Communist leaders while he was imprisoned in Sylhet Jail and played a key role in resolving differences within the Communist Party of Burma as well.

His contributions were not confined to Manipur alone, he said.

Sanayaima, meanwhile, said that the crisis in Manipur is unprecedented and stressed the importance of revisiting the idea of Manipur at this critical juncture.

He said that all the challenges facing Manipur can be overcome if the people remain united.
