Imphal, June 29 2026:
Veisya Youth Club (VYC), Telepati has denied allegations that locals assaulted Government officials during an eviction drive, calling social media posts "baseless and misleading".
Speaking at a press meet at the club office in Telepati Mahavir Mandir complex today, VYC convenor Deepak Prasad said District Administration, Imphal East, along with security personnel, evicted four shops and a meira shang at the Telepati pond area on the morning of June 22 .
He said club members and locals expressed disapproval and staged protests, but did not attack officials.
Prasad noted that residents have long maintained the pond and questioned why only some structures on khasland were targeted while others remain.
He claimed no prior notice was served regarding the eviction.
However, according to sources, SDO Porompat had issued a letter to SDC Porompat on June 20 intimating the eviction.
An order dated March 26 under Eviction Case No 5 of 2025/SDO(P)/IE had earlier directed removal of unauthorised structures.
Prasad also condemned attempts by some individuals to claim land around the pond or house gates as "sacred sites" after the eviction, calling it a ploy to grab land.
He urged people to stop such practices.
