Sadbhavana: Army boosts women weavers at Nungkot

Imphal, September 26 2026: In an initiative towards women empowerment and self-reliance, the Indian Army provided essential equipment and yam supplies to the textile unit at Nungkot Village, Imphal East district under Operation Sadbhavana.

A textile drum, storage unit and yam bank along with essential yam items were handed over on Saturday to make the unit self-dependent and self-sustaining.

The initiative will enable local weavers to undertake weaving activities independently and reduce their dependence on private facilities in Imphal for essential textile processes.

It also aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities while promoting the region's rich traditional weaving heritage.

The weavers were encouraged to combine traditional motifs with innovative patterns to develop attractive products and explore markets beyond the region.

The initiative draws upon the experience of successful textile units at Lamlai in Imphal East and Zakhama in Kohima district Nagaland, which provide sustainable livelihood models and encourage communities to pursue self-reliant economic opportunities.

The initiative reaffirms the Army's commitment to community development, women empowerment and inclusive growth, contributing towards the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
