One-day awareness programme on forest fire prevention held at Chandel

Chandel, February 26 2026: A one-day awareness programme on "Forest Fire Prevention" was held today at the Maha Area Chiefs Association Hall, Panchai, in Chandel district, organised by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 150 villagers, including 51 village chiefs, representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs), and members of Self Help Groups.

Among those present were Francis Thamdok, president of CNPO; Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO/Chandel; JS Angam, chairman, Maha Area Chiefs Association; and N Deepa Devi, RFO/Chandel.

The speakers highlighted the growing threat of forest fires and stressed the need for collective responsibility in protecting forest resources.

They urged village leaders and community members to remain vigilant and to actively cooperate with the Forest Department in preventing and controlling forest fire incidents.
