Irilbung PS organises awareness camp at relief camp

A team of Irilbung Police Station led by its Officer in-charge Prakhar Pandey organised an awareness programme on Child Sexual Abuse for the displaced children staying at the relief camp opened at Ideal Girls College, Akhampat, here, on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Imphal East district SP K Meghachandra Singh, Irilbung police station OC Prakhar Pandey, SDPO Porampat Babitarani Swain, Standard College Kongba principal Dr Laishram Bi-narani and Ideal Girls College principal Dr Thokchok Bina-rani as presidium members.
As part of the programme, an informative play was showcased by students of Standard College, Kongba and an interaction cum video lecture with the inmates by Wide Angle India, police team and media was arranged too.
Speaking to media, SP K Meghachandra informed that the Saturday programme was especially organised with the intent to entertain and sensitise the children who have been confined to the relief camp since the on-going conflict broke out on May 3, last year.
He also commended Iribung police for the initiative and assured of organising similar programmes in other relief camps as well.
Irilbung police station officer in-charge Prakhar Pandey expressed-concern that the on-going conflict has lasted more than a year now and it has left over 65000 people, including children, displaced forcing them to seek shelter in relief camps across the state.
Pointing out that the children are facing all sorts of difficulties as they have been displaced for a long time, Pandey said that the awareness programme was conducted as a precautionary measure to protect them from becoming victims of sexual abuse and the crimes.
