Arms surrendered, recovered, two arrested

Imphal, February 24 2025:
Police reported voluntary surrender of various arms and ammunition in different districts, alongside recovery of arms, and arrests of UG cadres on Monday.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had recently appealed to the public to voluntarily surrender illegal arms within seven day while assuring amnesty for such voluntary act.
According to a statement issued by Manipur Police Control Room, arms and ammunition were surrendered at various police stations across Imphal East, Churachandpur, and Imphal West districts.
At Andro PS in Imphal East, one SLR with a magazine was surrendered whereas at Sagolmang PS, also in Imphal East, one SLR with a magazine, four carbines with magazines, one additional magazine, and 21 rounds were surrendered.

Items surrendered at Heingang PS in Imphal East district included one 9mm pistol, four tube launchers of SLR, 10 rounds, one ammunition box, a bulletproof jacket, one stun shell, one smoke grenade, a helmet, two wireless sets, some used rounds, and various miscellaneous items.
In Churachandpur district, one SLR 7.62mm with magazine and three .303 rifles, each with a magazine were surrendered at Churachandpur PS.
Singjamei PS in Imphal West district recorded the surrender of one SMC carbine with a magazine, one double-barrel gun, a country-made rifle with magazine, one .32 pistol, three 36 HE hand grenades, a carbine magazine, one LMG magazine, an INSAS magazine, three rounds of AK ammunition, four stun grenades, four tear smoke grenades, five tear smoke shells, and a patka helmet.
Security forces also conducted search operations and area domination exercises in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.
The operations led to the recovery of one SLR, four magazines of SLR, 105 rounds of AK ammunition, 142 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, three rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, and three rounds of .303 ammunition from Leirongthel Pitra foothills under Nongpok Sekmai PS in Thoubal district.
Additionally, a Pumpi gun (canon) was recovered from the fringe areas of Gamgiphai, located along the boundary between Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts under Sapermeina PS.
Police also arrested two active cadres of MDF from Yurembam Makha Leikai and North AOC in Imphal West district.
The arrested individuals, identified as Khuraijam Hermanta (59), and Thiyam Bikramjit Singh, were involved in extortion activities targeting various government offices.
Items recovered from their possession included one 9mm pistol with a magazine and five rounds of 9mm ammunition, the statement said.
