Arms, bombs recovered as SFs intensify search ops

Imphal, June 23 2024: Security forces intensified search operations across the state and-recovered cache of arms and explosives.

According to police reports, a combined team of Hiyanglam police station and BSF led by Kakching district police commando OC subedar Soraisham Birla conducted searched Hiyanglam Natekhong and Khoidum area from 6:30 am to 8:15 am, and verified 120 people, during which one country made pistol, four 36 MMKI hand grenades without detonators, a Chinese hand grenade, five tube launcher, a carbine with magazine containing 10 live rounds, eight tear gas smoke shells, one smoke grenade and one Baofeng wireless set with batteries and charger were recovered from Khoidum Mamang Leikai.

The seized items have been handed over to Hiyanglam police station for further action.

A combined team of Thoubal district police and 33 Assam Rifles also conducted search operation at Waithou Chingkhong area under Lilong police station on Saturday morning resulting in the recovery of one each SMG Carbine with magazine, revolver, single barrel gun, SLR magazine, assault rifle magazine, IED, Motorola hand held set and bolt action rifle, and two each Chinese handgrenades, 36 HE Handgrenades, 2-inch mortar shells, 81 mortar shells, smoke shells and smoke grenades.

On the other hand, a joint team of Imphal East district police and AR conducted search operation in Ishingthembi-Kongba Maru area under Sagolmang police station from 9:30 am till 11:45 am on Saturday and recovered one each local-made single barrel gun, country made 9 mm pistol with magazine, country made 7.65 mm pistol with magazine, damaged 'pompi' and walkie-talkie set with battery, three HE hand grenades without detonators, and 10 7.65 mm rounds.

A combined team of Imphal West police commando, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, AR and BSF including women personnel also carried out search operation at Kadangband Part-I under Lamsang police station from 4 am to 5:30 am on Sunday.

The team searched 50 houses and verified 150 people, but no person or illegal items detained/recovered.

Similarly, a police team conducted search operation in areas between Kongpal Khaidem Leikai and Kongpal Lai Hiden Leikai under Porompat police station from 4:30 am till 6 am Sunday and verified around 200 people while a combined team of Bishnupur district commando, Kumaon Regiment and CRPF searched 30 houses in Kwakta Ward No VIII, under Phougakchao Ikhai police station, Bishnupur district from 7 am till 8:30 am on Sunday.

During the operation, 120 persons were verified, while two men and a woman detained for further verification were released on completion of the formalities at Phougakchao Ikhai police station.

On the other hand, a joint team of AR, CRPF and Kangpokpi district police conducted search operation at Haibung village under New Keithelmanbi police station, Kangpokpi district from 10 am till 11 am on Sunday covering 18 houses and verification of 24 persons.

Similarly, a combined team of Thoubal district police and CRPF carried out search operation at Leishangthem, Kshetri Leikai and Moijing in Thoubal district from 4 am to 7 am on Sunday during which 83 houses were searched and 415 people verified but without any detention or recovery of arms.

In another joint operation, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered weapons and other war-like stores from an area 1.8 kilometres west of Bijang village on Sunday.

The recovered items included one each MA 3 Mk II rifle with magazine, SLR rifle with magazine, single-barrel rifle, one improvised Pumpi, 10 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one ammunition pouch, six jackets, and one pair of jungle shoes.
