Ukhrul, April 23 2025:
A team of journalists from Ukhrul district on Tuesday conducted an independent inspection of the ongoing double-lane construction of NH-202 along the Ukhrul-Jessami route.
During their visit, the journalists discovered that while the stretch from Ukhrul to Jessami was still under construction, the segment from Jessami headquarters to Akash Bridge had been completed.
The media team engaged with officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), which oversees the project being carried out by HVS Construction Material Pvt Ltd.
Site engineer Shivam Gaur told the visiting journalists that the section of NH-202 from Jessami to Akash Bridge, covering 14.72 km under Package No 2, was completed on schedule.
"We have checked the road and found the quality satisfactory," Gaur stated, adding that the project commenced on February 20, 2023 and completed on February 19, 2025, adhering to the two-year timeline stipulated by NHIDCL.
An official from HVS informed that the Jessami-Akash Bridge road was constructed paying adequate attention to quality, with a maintenance period of five years following its completion.
"We are adhering to highest quality standards for the works, as substandard quality would adversely affect us during maintenance," the official stated, also assuring that the same quality standards apply to other ongoing constructions undertaken by the agency in the district.
Meanwhile, in an interaction with the journalists, Jessami Village Council secretary Asset Weza conveyed the elation of the locals at the timely completion of the road from Jessami to Akash Bridge.
"The project was completed within the scheduled timeframe and also in terms of size and quality, the villagers are quite satisfied with the progress", he remarked.
The newly-constructed double-lane highway will connect Jessami with Meluri in Nagaland at a distance of 32 km and Kiphire at 117 km.
It is also learnt that HVS is currently undertaking another stretch of NH-202 under Package No 6, which extends 44.5 km from Jessami headquarters to Marem Khullen, as well as an 11.09 km stretch from Jessami to Lanyi Bridge along NH-29 under Package No 7, connecting it with neighbouring Nagaland.
