Imphal, October 22 2024:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren has urged people of Manipur to remain cautious amid the current crisis to safeguard the state's future and its unique identity.
Speaking at a meeting of UCM Kumbi unit held at Kumbi Lai Achouba community hall on Tuesday , Dhiren stressed the importance of protecting and promoting Manipur's identity in the face of relentless challenges.
During the event, organised to elect new office bearers for the UCM Kumbi unit, Dhiren said that though the state has been grappling with a severe crisis since May 3 last year, both the Central and state governments have failed to resolve it till date.
He suspected that the crisis might have been engineered with ulterior motives given the Centre's handling of the situation.
"The state's peace, unity, and integrity are under threat, and the people are well aware of the Centre's outlook towards Manipur," Dhiren remarked.
He called for a united stance against the communal and partisan policies of the Government of India, even as he noted that "such polarisation might cause harm, but it would ultimately fail".
Dhiren also praised the role of Meira Paibi groups, acknowledging their efforts in facing various challenges brought on by the crisis.
At the meeting, Khangembam Ibohal was elected as chairman of the UCM Kumbi unit, Wahengbam Sarda as general secretary, Moirangthem Indu as secretary of finance, and Laishram Jimilata as IPR secretary.
A swearing-in ceremony was held as part of the event.
