Imphal, August 22 2024:
While dismissing BJP's contention that the Congress is abetting the crisis, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) legal department chairman Sanoujam Shyamcharan has emphasised that his party is committed to restoring peace in the state through all possible means.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Thursday, Shyamchand accused the BJP is issuing irrelevant statements with the sole intention to tarnish image of the Congress.
Outrightly condemning the allegations levelled by BJP spokesperson Kh Ibomcha that the Congress is scheming to prolong the crisis in the state, he affirmed that the party has been making concerted efforts to lessen impact of the crisis on the commoners and to restore peace.
While conveying that the Congress warmly welcomes the State Assembly's decision to form a committee for identifying illegal immigrants, the legal department chairman expressed hope that the committee would undertake initiatives for the welfare of people.
Although a meeting of the committee was scheduled for August 20, it is regretful that the same has been, shelved as per a notification issued on August 19 but without any explanation.
Shyamchand also criticised the misleading claim that the meeting was cancelled due to the absence of five Congress MLAs and suggested that such unfounded statements should be avoided.
He also deplored that the various committees formed by the government remain ineffective while opining that in case the newly proposed committee performs efficiently, it could help resolve the crisis lingering for the past 15 months.
