Imphal, March 21 2025:
Denouncing alleged allotment of land to a private party within the campus of Modern College, Porompat, students and staffers of the college staged sit-in protest at the gate on Friday.
The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans 'No private party in college land', 'No demarcation in college land' and 'Land property of the college should not be given to private party'.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, Modern College Students' Union finance secretary Manganglakpa Pebam questioned how private party could possess land property inside the campus of the college established in 1963 and demanded department concerned to identify the officer, if any, who allotted the land.
He further asserted that such an allotment would never be allowed.
Recalling that two attempts were made to demarcate land of the college, Manga-nglakpa said a notification issued in 2022 for demarcation process ended in futility after the students barred entry to a demarcation team.
After the failed bid, a fresh demarcation notice was issued on Friday in response to which students and teachers staged the sitin protest to denounce repeated attempts to allot land of College to private party, he reasoned.
The secretary also expressed strong resentment that a case has been registered against the college principal and instead of exposing officials involved in the scandalous land allotment.
