Imphal, February 20 2025:
Even as some threatened to resign if the President's Rule is extended further leading to dissolution of the assembly, BJP MLAs have condemned the imposition of PR in the state and urged the BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda to pressure the central government to initiate the process for the majority party, BJP, to form a government in the state.
Ex-minister and Singjamei MLA Yumnam Khemchand, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, Hiyanglam MLA Yumnam Radheshyam and Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam met A Sharda at party's Thambal Shanglen around 2pm on Thursday.
Responding to media queries on their way out after the meeting, MLA Khemchand stated that since the chief minister's resignation and the imposition of President's Rule in the state, there have been no discussions or meetings regarding the current political situation.
He explained that, as the state president is leader of the party following the resignation of the BJP Legislature Party leader, the meeting was held to discuss the ongoing political situation.
Denying all accusations regarding differences of opinion among BJP MLAs and claims of them camping separately, Khemchand pointed out that all the BJP MLAs are united and working together, with no differences of opinion.
He also clarified that, contrary to reports in some local media, there is no intention among BJP MLAs to form a regional party.
If such an idea were to arise, he said, it would bear no fruit.
Khemchand also expressed optimism that president Sharda would soon call a meeting of the party MLAs, during which the ongoing political crisis would be thoroughly discussed and resolved.
He added that the question of choosing a new leader after N Biren Singh's resignation would be decided by the central leadership, and expressed belief that the state BJP president will urge the central leaders to form a new government in the state as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar and Thanga MLA T Robindro, as well as Khurai MLA L Susindro also met president A Sharda later in the evening.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Shyamkumar confided that he urged the BJP state president to ensure that the majority party, BJP, form the new government in the state.
He described it as very unfortunate that a government led by the majority party had been toppled, calling it an unfortunate incident in the history of Manipur.
He added that the state president should pressure central leaders to choose a suitable leader and form a new government as soon as possible.
On the other hand, he stated that if the situation persists, with the extension of President's Rule and the possibility of the assembly being dissolved, he would resign from his position as MLA beforehand.
MLA T Robindro also stated that there is no difference of opinion within the party, with all BJP MLAs remaining united.
The party is in contact with other MLAs from different communities and strongly believe that the central leaders will form a new government as soon as possible.
He also affirmed that if President's Rule continues for an extended period with possibility of dissolving the assembly, then he too would resign as an MLA .
