Kangpokpi, October 18 2022: Abducted All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union Charhajare unit president Roshan Uprety has been reportedly rescued by a combined security team on Tuesday from the eastern range of.

Koubru hills and handed him over to his family late evening.

The combined team also arrested one Lettnang Tuboi, son of late Hemchon Tuboi of Chaibung village, Kangpokpi district, who is suspected to be involved in the abduction case.

The arrested person was later remanded to police custody after producing him before a court.

However, non-SoO Kuki outfit Kuki National Front - Nehlun (KNF-N), which claimed responsibility for kidnapping of Roshan Uprety, contended that the Gorkha student leader was released safe and sound on humanitarian ground.

According to a police source, a combined team of Kangpokpi district police, Assam Rifles and CDOs launched search operation on the eastern side of Koubru range based on specific inputs about presence of hideout of the abductors near Mangjol village.

Upon approaching the suspected hideout, suspicious movement of few people was noticed and subsequently one individual was found near a Kacha hut while the rest fled taking advantage of thick jungle.

Later, the individual was identified as Roshan Uprety (35), son of Somnath Uprety of Charhajare and he was taken to Gamnom Saparmeina police station.

Roshan was later handed over to his family after a medical examination at PHC Gamp hazol.

The search operation is still going to trace the abductors, the source added.

Meanwhile, KNF-N information and publicity secretary Gou alias Kuki said in a statement issued Tuesday morning that Roshan Uprety was abducted in connection with the July 10, 2022 incident at Charhajare wherein two cadres of the outfit were rounded up by Charhajare Nepali residents and handed over to police along with their firearms.

Charhajare village authorities were repeatedly summoned to bring a compromise regarding the July 10 incident but the summons were not responded, the statement said and clarified that Roshan Uprety was abducted not for ransom but to bring an amicable compromise.

Later in the evening, the outfit stated that Roshan Uprety was released purely on humanitarian ground considering the situation of his wife and children, and parents' prayer.

It stated that Gorkha civil bodies of Charhajare and JAC had no concern at all for Roshan Uprety's life and his family and never made any attempt to bring a compromise in connection with the July 10 incident even after the abduction.

Despite such indifferent attitude of Gorkha civil bodies, the outfit considered the humble prayer of Roshan's wife and parents and released him purely on humanitarian ground, it stated.

While informing that no compromise has been reached regarding the July 10 incident, the outfit warned that Gorkha civil bodies of Charhajare and JAC should be solely responsible if any untoward incident happens in future.
