Imphal, June 18 2024:
Criticising outcome of Monday's high-level security meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah where it was resolved to send additional forces to the state, Imagi Meira has called upon the chief minister to prepare a comprehensive report based on accurate data regarding the ongoing conflict and sent it to the central government requesting reversal of the decision.
It also demanded resignation of the chief minister and the 45 MLAs if they fail to comply with the request.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata expressed disappointment over the fact that the chief minister of Manipur was not invited to the meeting specially convened to deliberate on the Manipur crisis.
The decision to deploy additional forces in Manipur, alongside the already significant presence of central forces, is regrettable, she said and raised concerns about the existing gap between the central government and the Manipur administration, particularly questioning why such a divide exists if the chief minister is actually performing his duties effectively.
Expressing dismay over the inability of chief minister N Biren to say anything to the centre even when the Kukis in Manipur have the ability to propose to the centre for setting up a mini airport in Churachandpur, Sujata highlighted that the state's situation has deteriorated to such an extent that the chief minister cannot even visit Jiribam to assess the security situation there personally.
Therefore, both CM Biren and the 45 MLAs should compile a detailed report based on accural data concerning the ongoing conflict in the state and submit it to the central government within two days, thereby preventing deployment of additional forces in the state.
She further questioned why chief minister Bireri, who also holds the home portfolio, did not have the courage to inquire why he was excluded from the high-security meeting, especially considering the state's law and order situation has deteriorated to the point where even his security convoy was ambushed by armed Kuki militants.
With deployment of central forces in significant numbers in the state unable to contain the conflict, bringing in additional forces would prove futile, she contended.
