MLA Dikho attends SDWA cultural session

The cultural session organised by Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) was held with Mao MLA L Dikho as chief guest, and social activist Daphya Reihpao as the chief patron while deputy secretary of GAD/MA/MI/SW/CAD Koshoni Phimu delivered a presentation on the theme "Cultural Impact on Women Today" as the resource person.
Defining culture as a collection of shared beliefs, values, practices, traditions, and ways of life transmitted across generations, Phimu emphasised that the foundation of cultural influence begins within the home, shaped by familial interactions and values.
Highlighting the privileged position of women in the region compared to other urban areas where societal roles are less equitable, she said: "The women of today are the thoughts of their mothers and grandmothers embodied and made alive".
Phimu stressed the vital role of mothers in shaping perspectives and attitudes of future generations and urged parents to ensure equal opportunities to sorts and daughters.
She also called for efforts to empower women, enabling them to achieve self-reliance and access opportunities for personal and collective growth for more equitable society.
In his address, MLA Dikho acknowledged strides women have made in various domains, including civil services and entrepreneurship, while noting their innovative contributions.
He underscored the importance of involving women in economic development, stating that the active participation of women could significantly enhance societal progress.
Emphasising the need for economic growth in the region, he encouraged a collective vision aimed at empowering women economically to foster overall societal development.
The event also had cultural performances and indigenous games of Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal, and Zeliangrong- highlighting the rich heritage of the region.
