MLA joins condemnation chorus, gives sanity call

Wangoi MLA Khuraijam Loken strongly condemned the murder of Ches-am Abdul Kadir and shared the grief of the bereaved family while assuring that swift justice would be delivered.
He also appealed to the public to refrain from communal statements or activities in connection with the incident.
Abdul Kadir of Paobitek Mayai Leikai had gone missing since June 10, and his body was later found buried along the riverbank of Nambul River in Samurou Makha Leikai Maning area on Tuesday.
As an elected representative, the MLA said, he shares the pain and grief of the bereaved family and will pursue the matter to ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible.
Pointing out that police investigation is already underway, he appealed to all sections of society to avoid any actions, statements or social media posts that could harm the fraternity between the Meetei and Meitei Pangal communities.
He urged the public not to view the case from a communal perspective and further assured to assist the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in having its demands fulfilled through the government and that no guilty person would be spared.
Meanwhile, various organisations condemned the barbaric killing of specially-abled Chesam Abdul Kadir and demanded stringent punishment to all the perpetrators according to law of the land.
In a release, United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur expressed its deepest shock, outrage, and strongest condemnation over the cold blooded killing of Abdul.
While appreciating the prompt action of Manipur Police in apprehending several individuals, including members of the Arambai Tenggol (AT), the Committee stressed that justice should be delivered swiftly and firmly.
It demanded immediate arrest of all remaining perpetrators involved in the abduction, assault, and murder of Abdul Kadir; accused be charged under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) including murder, abduction, wrongful confinement, kidnapping or abducting for murder and relevant sections under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, for committing violence against a mentally challenged person; case be fast-tracked through a special court to ensure speedy trial and justice; state government provide immediate ex-gratia relief and rehabilitation support to the family of the deceased; complete ban and legal scrutiny on activities of unlawful armed vigilante groups and individuals operating under various labels; public disclosure of investigation findings and transparency in judicialproceedings to restore public trust; and authorities ensure enhanced community policing and protective measures for mentally challenged, differently-abled, and marginalised individuals in the state.
It also appealed to all peace-loving citizens, civil society organisations, and student bodies to rise in solidarity, condemn this despicable crime, and demand uncompromising justice for Abdul Kadir.
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), while condemning the killing of specially-abled Chesam Abdul Kadir, demanded that home department initiate necessary actions against the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
FOCS also pledged support to the movement launched for punishing the perpetrators and urged leaders of movement spearheads to exercise caution, so to prevent the situation from taking communal tone which would only facilitate adversary elements to take undue advantage.
All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPACO), Social Welfare Club (Top Siphai), Youth Unity Development Organisation (Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai), United Youth Club (Yumnam Huidrom), All Samurou United Clubs' Organisation and United Council Sora also condemned the killing of Chesam Abdul Kadir.
They also demanded stringent punishment of those involved in the killing.
