Imphal, May 16 2025:
Director of University and Higher Education, I Radhakanta on Friday said the directorate is facing several challenges in fully implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state.
He made the statement while speaking as chief guest at a one-day workshop on "NEP-2020: Prospects, Challenges and Way Forward", jointly organised by Biramangol College Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and College Development Committee.
Radhakanta said that NEP 2020 has already been implemented in the state, but full implementation continues to be a challenge.
Pointing out that such challenges are not unique to Manipur as other states may also be facing similar difficulties, he cited discussions from a recent national workshop on NEP held in Delhi, where academicians from across the country highlighted several implementation issues.
He, nevertheless, disclosed that despite the hurdles, the directorate is putting in maximum efforts to implement the new education policy in its entirety, with special emphasis on adhering to its rules and guidelines, which are essential to achieving the policy's objectives.
"The NEP 2020 encourages the inclusion of skill-based education in higher education, especially at the college level, to help students become self-reliant after graduation," he explained, adding that efforts are ongoing to introduce the 4-year undergraduate programme, though it also comes with its own set of challenges.
Nevertheless, the directorate is committed to introducing the programme in the interest of students' future careers, Radhakanta assured and informed that detailed guidelines outlining the criteria colleges must meet to offer the 4-year undergraduate course will be issued by May 30 .
