Training programme kicks off at COA

Imphal, December 15 2025: A 6-day training programme on "Current Seed Testing and Seed Certification Practices in NEH States" began today at the conference hall of College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.

The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof K Nandini Devi, Dean, COA; Gladney Monsang, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur; Prof N Brajendra Singh, Nodal Officer, AICRP Seed (Crops), COA; Prof I Meghachandra Singh, Department of GPB and Expert-Seed Science & Technology, COA, CAU; and Prof Th Renuka Devi, Head, Department of GPB, COA, CAU.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof Th Renuka emphasized the significance of organising the training programme, noting that its primary objective is to enhance participants' knowledge of the quality seed production system in the State.

Prof K Nandini highlighted the diverse varieties developed by scientists of ICAR and CAU, stressing the importance of focusing on these innovations to ensure quality maintenance and affordable access for farmers.

She called for a participatory approach from all stakeholders to strengthen skills in seed certification and seed testing.

Other dignitaries emphasized the importance of quality seeds for advancing agriculture and ensuring food security for all.

They underscored the need to examine the problems and challenges encountered in seed certification and testing in the NorthEast Region, urging participants to engage with experts during the training programme to discuss the ground realities.

The training programme is being organised by AICRP on Seed Crops, COA, CAU, Imphal under the sponsorship of ICAR-National Institute of Seed Science and Technology (ICAR-NISST), Mau, Uttar Pradesh and supported by National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur.

A total of 52 officials from ICAR, CAU, KVKs and various line departments are participating in the training.
