State duo receive Veteran Achievers' Award

Two retired Army officers from the state were conferred with the prestigious "Veteran Achievers' Award'" by the Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi on the occasion of the 9th Veterans' Day celebration held on Wednesday, at the BEG Centre, Pune, Maharashtra.
General Dwivedi also attended the 77th Army Day parade on the occasion.
According to a statement issued by Wings of Hope Charitable Trust, the recipients - Lt Col L Manongba (Retd) of the 11 Gorkha Rifles and Subedar Major (Honorary Lieutenant) P Piju Mao (Retd) of the 2nd Naga Regiment - were the only nominees from the Northeast India to receive the newly established national honour.

Lt Col L Manongba has been instrumental in supporting ex-servicemen in remote parts of Manipur, providing financial aid and guidance through his leadership of the Wings of Hope Charitable Trust.
The trust has been offering year-round educational support to 60 orphans and alternative livelihood assistance to widows, all victims of the recent ethnic clashes in the state.
Similarly, Subedar Major P Piju Mao established the Youth Upliftment & Empowerment Institute in Senapati district, where his efforts have helped nearly 100 young men join the Indian Army as Agni Veers and many others secure positions in the CAPF.
His institute has trained 300 youths at minimal costs, continuing his legacy of selfless service.
The award recognises their Outstanding contributions to nation-building, service to their states, and fostering cpmmunity harmony during times of crisis, the statement said.
