SAHS, RIMS protest murder of medical trainee

In a display of solidarity and outrage, around 300 students and faculty members of Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Langol staged sit-in protest on Tuesday to denounce the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The protest held at the premises of the college called for immediate measures to deliver justice and ensure the safety of medical professionals.
During the protest the participants held placards and chanted slogans condemning violence against doctors and calling for accountability from the authorities.
The students, along with faculty members, expressed their grief and anger over the incident that has shocked the medical community across the country.
Speakers at the protest, including student representatives and faculty members, demanded immediate action from the authorities, thorough investigation into the case and safety measures at medical campuses nationwide.
The protest was part of a nationwide movement of the medical community to ensure such heinous acts are met with swift justice and safety of doctors and medical students is prioritised, according to a joint statement issued by the participants.
In solidarity with the victim of RG Kar Medical College incident, Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in collaboration with Teachers' And Medical Officers Association (TAMOA) and RIMS Students' Union (RIMSSU) also organised protest demonstration at RIMS campus on Tuesday.
A release issued by RIMS RDA informed that following the campus protest, a march was taken out towards the Manipur Legislative Assembly to express unwavering support to the demands of RG Kar Medical College.
The demonstration was conducted without affecting patient care in emergency services, ICU, and OTs, it conveyed, while expressing solidarity to the departed soul, denouncing the heinous act and advocating for justice.
"We echo the sentiments of Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) and all medical associations across India, which are also protesting this grave incident," it added.
The release also urged authorities to take swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of all healthcare workers.
An executive committee meeting of Indian Medical Association South East Manipur Branch held at JIVAN hospital, Kakching on Tuesday with Dr Ksh Manglem in the chair also condemned the rape and murder of the post-graduate medical trainee.
The meeting also demanded exemplary punishment to perpetrators of the crime.
