NPO calls for local contractors in NH-2 project, warns against minus tender bidding

Senapati, April 13 2026: The Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has urged authorities to engage local contractors for the proposed strengthening and development of the Mao to Senapati stretch of National Highway-2 (NH-2), while strongly opposing the practice of below-minust tender bidding.

In a statement, the apex civil society body of the district, appealed to the concerned authorities, including the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), to ensure that the only local contractors are permitted to undertake the project.

The work involves upgrading the old NH-39 (new NH-2) covering the stretch from existing chainage Km 212+328 (Mao Gate) to Km 264+313 (Taphou Kuki) under EPC mode, covering a total length of 51.985 km.

The NPO stated that its stand is based on past experiences with outside contractors and firms, which, it alleged, have often compromised on quality standards while prioritising rapid completion of projects.

It further pointed out that when executing agencies are from outside the State, it becomes difficult for local residents to raise grievances or seek redressal regarding quality-related issues.

The NPO also categorically stated that bids quoted below minus rates would not be accepted for execution of the project.

It warned that any such attempts would be opposed in the larger interest of the public.

The NPO cautioned that any violation of its directives, particularly concerning fair bidding practices, would be viewed seriously and rejected outrightly.
