SDCC conducts surprise checking

Senapati District Consumers Club (SDCC), Manipur, together with Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC), Naga People's Organization, Senapati District Students' Association, Senapati District Women's Association and district police, conducted surprise checks on expired goods at shops in Senapati district on Thursday.
Speaking to the media, Lokho Ozho, general secretary SDCC, reported that the district has received numerous complaints regarding the sale of expired goods and faulty measurement scales used by local butchers.
In response, the SDCC, in collaboration with the Karong Senapati Town Committee and other CSO leaders, conducted a thorough check within the district headquarters.
During this drive, the team seized substantial quantity of expired groceries and food items, as well as faulty measurement scales.
Some butchers were found using substandard or manipulated weights, and some using stones for weighing.
The seized items have been placed in the custody of the Karong Senapati Town Committee for further action, the SDCC leader said.
The SDCC warned that such a drive will be conducted periodically and that legal action will be pursued against any repeat offenders in the future.
In her statement, D Maryna, president Senapati District Consumers Club, condemned the unethical practices of certain businessmen.
She further said that numerous warnings had been issued to these offenders in the past, yet they continue to disregard these advisories.
