Congress reconstitutes Saitu, Saikul units ahead of 2027 polls

Kangpokpi, August 11 2026: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has reconstituted the Saitu and Saikul Block Congress Committees as part of efforts to strengthen the party's grassroots organisation in Sadar Hills ahead of the 2027 Manipur Assembly elections.

The reconstitution was approved by MPCC president and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh through separate orders issued on August 10 .

The Saitu Block Congress Committee has been reconstituted with 24 officebearers, with R Rengsinkhup Kharam appointed president and Romi Dangmei working president.

K H Kamchekkung Chiru and Thangkhohao Haokip have been appointed vice-presidents, while Khamneison Kom will serve as treasurer and Manghekam Kipgen as secretary.

The Saitu committee also comprises two joint secretaries and 15 executive members.

In Saikul, Khuplun Khongsai has been appointed president and Lunginmang Haokip working president.

The reconstituted committee comprises six vice-presidents, one treasurer, six general secretaries, six secretaries and 17 executive members.

The Sadar Hills District Congress Committee (SH-DCC) welcomed the organisational restructuring, with its president Dr Lamtinthang Haokip congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers and thanking the MPCC leadership for approving the district unit's proposals.

The reconstitution comes as the Congress steps up preparations for the forthcoming 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

The expansion of the two block committees is expected to strengthen the party's organisational network and grassroots presence in the politically significant Saitu and Saikul constituencies.

The move is also seen as part of the party's efforts to build a wider network of functionaries and strengthen its electoral machinery in Sadar Hills ahead of the 2027 polls.
