Stage set for 10th Student Martyrdom Day observance

Saying that all necessary preparations have been made to observe the 10th Student Martyrdom Day on August 16 in remembrance of the act of self-immolation committed by Pebam Chittaranjan to demand repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has appealed to all concerned to refrain from imposing bandh, strike, blockade etc and stop all kind of entertainment programmes on the day.
Addressing a press meet in this connection at its office located at Keishamthong here today, RK Koireng, vice-president of MSF, informed that the observance will be started with offering of floral tributes at Bishnupur Market and Takhellambam Leikai, home town of Chittaranjan and it would be followed by a cycle rally from Takhellambam Leikai up to Thangmeiband THAU Ground.
He further informed that a public meeting and blood donation camp will be organized at the same venue to mark the occasion and added that planning has been also made to light candles at head office, branch offices of the students' organization and Takhellambam Leikai.
It may be mentioned that Pebam Chittaranjan had committed self immolation to press the demand for repeal of the draconian AFSPA on August 16, 2012.
