On Monday afternoon, Khwairamband Keithel vendors, COCOMI Women Wing and volunteers tried to stage protest at the iconic market but intercepted by a team of City Police.
Despite the disruption, the protestors went ahead with the protest, shouting various slogans such as "All MLA/ministers should go to Jiribam", "MLAs/ ministers who cannot save Manipur should resign", "Hand over the state to people if you cannot end Kuki narco-terrorists", "Manipur no longer wants to associate with Modi", "India cannot give away Manipur to Kuki narco-terrorists", "India has been protecting Kuki militants for over a year", "India is an enemy of Manipur", "Let's us all rise up to save our motherland", and "India should stop supporting Kuki narco-terrorists".
Speaking on the sidelines, COCOMI Women Wing volunteer RK Tharaksana remarked that the government has been unable to solve the conflict which has been raging on for over a year now.
Thousands of Meeteis were forced to flee from Churachandpur and Moreh and their houses burned and razed to the ground.
The same scenario is being repeated in Jiribam presently but the MLAs and ministers are engrossed in the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister.
Questioning why the elected representatives are not visiting Jiribam, she demanded the elected representatives to resign from the respective seats if they cannot fulfil their responsibilities and save the state.
Informing that various intense agitations would be launched from Tuesday onwards, she appealed to the people to extend their support to the agitations, adding that everyone should take up the responsibility for saving Manipur.
