Kakching, June 08 2024:
Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam has assured of repairing the road from Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu, popularly known as the Burma-Sugnu Road, with his own private money, if the government fails to repair the same at the earliest despite repeated requests.
He gave the assurance at the inaugural function of a community hall constructed under the MP and MLA LADF of Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam at Thounaojam Bazar on Saturday.
MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam informed that he requested the centre for repairing the Burma-Sugnu road, estimated to cost around Rs 30-40 crore.
After receiving approval, a survey to construct a two-lane road was also completed.
However, as the sanction was not given, the repair could not be carried out.
Although repeated requests were made to the BJP government, no action was taken up till date.
Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit, who is in the opposition, had even brought up the matter in the Assembly session.
As such, MLA Radheshyam said that if the government fails to repair the road at the earliest, then he will use his own private money to fill up the potholes with stones and earth and utilise a roller over the road, so as to repair it to the level of at least preventing road accidents.
The MLA also mentioned the matter of providing drinking water connection to Thounaojam, Yangdong and Elangkhanpokpi areas, which would resume soon after resolving the issues concerned.
The inaugural function was also attended by Zilla Parishad member Waikhong Chongtham Indrajit, social workers Yumnam Ibobi and Yumnam Somorjit as presidium members.
Later, the MLA also inaugurated the Ibudhou Pakhangba Community Hall and gate constructed at Langmeidong under his LADF.
