Imphal, July 04 2024:
The statement given by the Prime Minister on the Manipur crisis lacks merit and it was an attempt to divert from the core issues, claimed socio-political commentator Ch Bijoy.
Addressing a press meet at his residence, here, on Thursday, Bijoy likened treatment of the Central government towards the state to those of the colonial masters, and said that there can be no solution as long as they see the crisis as a law-and-order problem.
The crisis in Manipur is not a law-and-order issue but an outcome of the Centre's attempt to cover up continuity of its colonial geo-politics, he maintained.
Stating that speaking about registering 11,000 FIRs and arrest of 500 people is an irresponsible statement on the part of the Prime Minister, Bijoy pointed out that the stark contrast between the numbers of FIRs and arrest made itself shows how the law enforcing agencies have failed to discharge their duties and not an issue of slack conviction rate by the court.
It clearly shows the PM's attempt to divert attention from the core issues and to cover up the proxy war being waged by the Centre.
It is also rather unfortunate for the PM to undermine sufferings of the people and make false claim of normalcy returning in the state.
The normalcy people want is the condition of carrying out socio-economic activities, move from one place to another freely.
People of the state could not understand the definition of Prime Minister's 'normalcy', he elaborated.
Bijoy further said that it is not a secret anymore that the crisis in the state is an ohtcome of the Central government's attempt to cover up its geo-political agenda in Myanmar.
The interference of the Government of India in the internal issue of another country forced many of the Chin-Kuki rebels to flee to Manipur and create the pres ent situation.
It would take less than a month if the Centre truly wants to control and resolve the crisis in the state, which is smaller than a district in UP in term of geographical size, he said, while observing that prolonging the crisis only exposes the hidden agenda of the central government.
Commenting on the maiden speech of Dr Bimol Akoijam, Bijoy said that colonial outlook used by the MP to compare the outlook of the Central government towards the state is the right term.
On the other hand, the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur crisis was just for namesake only.
It could be said that the powerful speech of Bimol Akoijam woke up PM Modi, who was in a deep slumber.
The allegations levelled by BJP against the MP for not mentioning core issues like NRC, FMR and SoO agreement is like an unskilled worker blaming the tools.
Abrogation or continuation of SoO is the prerogative of the state government and it is clearly mentioned in the ground .rules of the tripartite agreement, he added.
