E-catalogue for new handloom products released

Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation limited chairman S Achouba has informed that efforts are being made to provide the 6th pay scale to the staff of the Corporation.' He made the announcement on the occasion of releasing an e-catalogue for new handloom products at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong here on Friday.
Achouba, who attended the function as chief guest, recounted that the Corporation has been offering handloom and handicraft products through e-market/e-commerce platform, Panthoibi.com since 2017.The e-market service was launched in 2018-19 at the Emporium in Wangkhei.
Lauding the hard work done by the Corporation's staff in ensuring delivery of the products across the globe despite receiving the 5th Pay, which he opined is not suitable in present times; the chairman announced that the board of the Corporation will soon convene a meeting to increase the pay by implementing the 6th pay scale.
Regarding the release of the e-catalogue, Achouba informed that this is the third time such catalogue has been released with the aim of spreading the marketing channels of the Corporation across the globe.
The catalogue will help in drawing the attention of customers and guide them in purchasing the products, which in turn will encourage the weavers and artisans and further generate more employment opportunities, he added.
The chairman then recalled his association with the Corporation since September 24,2020 and highlighted the changes and achievements it has been able to attain.
The state's handloom and handicraft products are now able to get a place in the international arena under the CM Biren-led government, including exporting the products twice to Panthoibi Emporium in Delhi and Kolkata due to high demand.
The Corporation continues to be involved in sale of hand-loom and handicraft products, e-commerce promotion, supply of school uniform at affordable rates and other works.
In addition, with the support of Ministry of Textiles, it has organised block level handToom cluster programmes in various places and produced different prototypes.
The Corporation has also set up 40 technical training centres in different handloom pockets of the state, apart from producing 200 prototypes in collaboration with designers empanelled by the Ministry of Textiles.
The Centres are now recognised by various stakeholders.
The Corporation had also organised 10 design workshops, through which 10 handloom pockets were selected and 40 different prototypes produced, he conveyed.
Achouba also appreciated the Union Textile minister's announcement of setting up a Rs 30 crore worth Handloom Centre at the birthplace of Olympic medallist Mirabai.
In his speech, Corporation's general manager (administration) E Jiten observed that the e-commerce platform has become the most preferred form of shopping for customers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Department of Textiles and the Corporation had jointly set up a Paona Mart' which not only offers handToom products but food items as well.
He then said that the Corporation has been encouraging people in the field of handToom and handicrafts by giving them awards, thereby encouraging more artisans and weavers to come forward.
The e-catalogue releasing function was also attended by Jageshwori, assistant director of DC Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles.
