Imphal, July 03 2024:
Appreciating the newly elected Lok Sabha MP Dr Akoijam Bimol for bringing up the issue of Manipur in the ongoing session of the Parliament, BJP Manipur Pradesh urged the new MP to bring up other important issues such as implementation of National Registrar of Citizens (NRC), withdrawal of Suspension of Operation (SoO) and others as well.
Addressing a press meet at the Thambal Shanglen of BJP at Nityai-pat Chuthek, here, on Wednesday, BJP Manipur spokesperson Johnson Elangbam lauded MP Bimol for bringing up the Manipur in the Parliament session.
However, he (Bimol) failed to mention issues related to SoO violations and the militants associated with the same, especially with the people calling for withdrawal of the agreement and the state government having taking a decision on the matter.
Regarding influx of immigrants from Myanmar into Manipur, the spokesperson pointed out that to prevent the same, both the central and state governments had taken the step of capturing biometric, which should have been mentioned in the House.
It would be even better if Dr Bimol offered suggestions on how to resolve the prevailing conflict.
Nonetheless, it is hoped that he (Bimol) would bring up issues close to the heart of the people in the future.
As an opposition MP, he could have mentioned the efforts undertaken by the centre till date, Johnson opined.
To be candid, MP Bimol failed to mention central government's efforts to curb the conflict and the overall issue faced by the state, the spokesperson claimed, adding that the people's demand is for the political parties to stop mudslinging and instead offer constructive suggestions and work together to bring a solution to the crisis.
The error in the census of 2011 has shown the impact in the demography of the state.
If the MP had mentioned these issues and informed the House that implementation of NRC would be best in view of the demographic threat, his speech would have held more meaning, Johnson said and urged MP Bimol to mention these core issues in his next speech in the ongoing Parliament session.
Responding to questions from the media, Johnson said that with regard to the PM's silence on the Manipur issue, efforts are being made at the party level.
However, as Dr Bimol is an MP representing Manipur, he has the privilege to question the same in the house.
Chipping in, spokesperson L Bashanta Sharma said that the state party unit appreciates Dr Bimol for bringing up Manipur's issue in the parliament.
He then hoped that the two MPs will continue to raise other issues concerning the state, while keeping aside ail political differences.
