Imphal, August 02 2025:
Ireipak Inat Chanura Loisinlon (ICHAL) president Tongbram (Ongbi) Ibemcha has called for upholding the status of women in the society, underscoring that the same determines the progress and development of a society.
Ibemcha made the statement during ICHAL's 20th foundation day celebration at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club here on Friday.
Ibemcha recounted that ICHAL was formed with the aim of protecting young women of the state from global influence.
"The rich tradition and custom of the state continue to be affected by the negative external influences," she noted, cautioning that youngwomen going outside the state, in their attempt to integrate and assimilate with the places they are in, become victims of crime.
She further said that imitating the habits and lifestyles of outside the state is impacting the rich tradition and customs of the state.

"This, in turn, is leading to the degradation of the community, which is not conducive to its survival.
Thus, young women and girls need to preserve and protect the culture of the state," she asserted.
"There was noncustom during the time of our forefathers of women venturing out in the night.
These days, young girls and women attend celebrations late into the night.
This would lead to the state carrying a bad name," she contended.
Asserting that women are the mirror of the society and the development of a society depends on their status, Ibemcha urged parents and guardians to make their young daughters thoroughly understand the need to maintain a balance and uphold the status of women.
The celebration was attended by Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi, Tammi Chingmi president Yambem Momon, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Yumlembam Memma, Nim-pal president Thingbaijam Ibeyaima, Apunba Nupi Lup (Anul) Bishnupur president Lourembam Pramo, Thoubal District United Womans' Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) president Sapam Bimola, Macha Leima president, Wangkhem Amusana; Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh Lukram Binakumari and Ima Leimarol Apunba Lup, Churachandpur president Angom Nayani Leima as presidium members.
