MSA calls off general strike

Imphal, July 02 2026: The Minorities Students' Association (MSA), Manipur, has withdrawn its proposed general strike over the WAQF Board, Manipur issue, following Government action to reconstitute the Board's members.

Welcoming the order, MSA said it trusts the Government will implement the other points in its memorandum.

In a release, MSA appealed for a transparent selection of Board members, insisting that individuals with no financial scandals, preferably fresh intellectuals meeting WAQF Act criteria, be chosen without official interference.

MSA warned that the Government would be responsible for any consequences if irregularities occur.

Citing public hardship since the May 3, 2023 unrest, MSA deferred the bandh called from tonight.

It said it will continue to monitor the WAQF Board issue until all demands are met.
