Imphal, March 02 2025:
The Meitei Alliance has welcomed recent initiatives taken by the central and state administrations under the leadership of union home minister Amit Shah and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla tp restore peace and maintain security in the state.
In a press release issued Sunday, the Alliance also reiterated its demand for the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) update in Manipur to identify illegal immigrants, citing concerns over demographic imbalances that could threaten social harmony and the cultural heritage of the state.
The alliance acknowledged the government's efforts in tackling the ongoing crisis and emphasised that the return of arms by civilians, who had taken up weapons to defend themselves against external Kuki terrorist threats, reflects renewed trust in the Centre's commitment to protecting the citizens.
It highlighted key initiatives such as the dismantling of the drug trade network, ensuring free movement on all roads in Manipur from March 8, strict action against extortion, and the acceleration of border fencing along key entry points of the international border.
According to the alliance, these measures are crucial for the safety of the people and the economic revival of the state.
The statement particularly stressed the need for a strong NRC to prevent demographic shifts that could disrupt Manipur's pluralistic society.
It also reaffirmed the Meitei Alliance's commitment to engaging with various communities to foster dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation in shaping a united and peaceful Manipur.
Furthermore, the alliance expressed its support for the government's pledge to uphold the rule of law, protect national highways from disruptions, and prevent militant groups from targeting civilians.
It urged continued vigilance and collaborative efforts to maintain stability in the state.
The Meitei Alliance assured that it would work alongside the government to ensure the effective implementation of these initiatives, emphasising that lasting peace and progress could only be achieved through security, stability, and inclusivity.
