Imphal, July 01 2024:
National People's Party (NPP) national vice-president Y Joykumar has said that the unconditional support his party is extending to BJP government in the state would be withdrawn from first week of October if there is no concrete action from both the state and Central governments for resolving the crisis in the state within the next three months.
Addressing media persons at Naoremthong office of NPP state on Monday, Y Joykumar said there has been no concrete action from both the state and Central governments to end the more than one year long violence in Manipur.
This issue along with non-invitation of NPP in the all-political party meeting despite extending unconditional support to the BJP-led government in the state had been apprised to NPP national president Conrad Sangma on June 28.During the meeting in Shillong, Conrad voiced concern over the unresolved crisis in Manipur and said that BJP and NPP suffered huge defeat not only in Manipur but also in other states of the North East due to the Manipur issue.
The meeting also discussed thoroughly withdrawal of support to the BJP government in Manipur to which the NPP president pledged endorsement of the decision taken by NPP state unit, Y Joykumar said.
According to Joykumar, NPP has been monitoring the violence in Manipur.
Many all-political party meetings had been held since outbreak of the violence on May 3, 2023 but NPP was not invited to these meetings with exception of one after being approached.
NPP wants to take part in all such crucial meetings and share its experience but the party was never invited and accordingly did not get the chance to share the party's thoughts and experience on the issue, he added.
Y Joykumar further said that the question on whether the government wants to end the violence or lengthen it needs thorough discussion though there have been media reports that the BJP government both at the Centre and in the state are trying to resolve the crisis within three months.
Accordingly, the NPP will wait and watch changes in the coming three months, he said, adding that resolving the crisis lies at the hands of the Centre.
According to Y Joykumar, the Centre is well aware of the fact that the violence was triggered by PDF and CDF militants coming from Myanmar and evicting them and preventing their entry into Manipur again lies at the hands of the Central government.
Thousands of Central forces are currently deployed in Manipur but what they are doing is reasonably questionable as no action is visible from them.
NPP will review the support rendered to the BJP government if no change is visible within the next three months and accordingly take the decision to withdraw support to the BJP government, he added.
