Imphal, March 01 2025:
Nurses at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) staged a sit-in protest today against monetary demands made by different groups.
Held at RIMS campus, the protest, which lasted for a few hours, was a response to the persistent demands for money from various groups, which the nurses find unacceptable.
Speaking to the media on the sideline, Senior Nursing Officer of RIMS Y Sundari said that various groups have been making unbearable monetary demands to the nurses over the past few days, accompanied by threats of dire consequences if these demands aren't met.
She went on to say that the nurses have been receiving repeated, harassing calls from the groups.
Saying that the threats from these groups have created a climate of fear among the medical staff at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Sundari added that they are now apprehensive about leaving their homes or even attending to their patients.
She continued that the issue extends beyond the nurses, as doctors and other hospital staff have also received similar monetary demands.
Appealing to the groups concerned to withdraw their demands, she cautioned that further threats to medical staff may lead to a cease work strike.
