Imphal, May 31 2010:
The Observance of the International Week of Involuntary or Enforced Disappearance was observed yesterday at Manipur Press Club here under the aegis of the Families of Involuntary Disappeareds Association (FIDAM).
The function was graced by father of social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima as chief guest, secretary of the United Voluntary Youth Council Kangjam Maharabi as guest of honour and FIDAM president Kangjam Ranjit as functional president.
Th Iboyaima said that the Government should be held responsible for the many cases of forced disappearance of people after they were picked up by security forces.
He also called upon all to enthuse the younger generations with strong sense of nationalism.
Lamenting that complaints and cries of the families whose sons have been forced to disappear voluntarily have not found any ears, social worker Irom Singhajit called upon all the people to stand united against such extreme form of human rights violation.
