ILP protest continues

Imphal, September 28 2014:
Sit-in protests and public meetings demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur continue unabated at various places of the state.
Under the aegis of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), residents of Sagolband Sayang Konthoujam Leikai in Imphal west staged a sit in protest at the locality around 2 pm today, according to a statement of W.Ananda Meetei, Convenor Publicity Committee of JCILPS.
In the public meeting during the sit-in, the participants resolved to restrict entry of non-locals without proper documents into the locality.
The meeting participated by JCILPS Convenor Ibotombi Khuman, Somorendro Khondram and R.K Sanahanbi as resource persons, also demanded the state government to frame a law to check with the influx outsiders into Manipur.
Supporting the statewide demand for a restrictive system to check intrusion of non-locals, various organizations of Awang Jiri Mayai Leikai in Imphal west organized a public meeting at the locality today.
According to the release, the programme held under the aegis of JCILPS was organized jointly by Awang jiri Khul Committee, Awang jiri Sports Assn (ASA), Awang Jiri youth Guidance Club (AJYGC), United Progressive Club Awang jiri.
(UPCA) and Yaipha Naharol Club (YNCA) and Meira Paibi groups of the area, Co-convenors of the Joint Committee W.Ananda and Somerendro Thokchom, and Executive Member Soubam Rajen took part in the meeting as resource persons.
Among others, the meeting resolved to demand immediate materialization of the ILP system for which series of consultations are going on now and to restrict entry of non-locals without proper documents into the Awang Jiri areas.
Meanwhile, the Joint committee observed the 63rd death anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot on September 26 last at 2 pm at its office at Nongmeibung Nambam Chutthekta in Imphal east.
Volunteers of the Joint Committee and leaders of different civil society organizations paid floral tributes to the portrait of the leader.
