Khangabok threatens boycott of armed groups

In denunciation of placing a bomb at the Khangabok Awang Leikai residence of Sur Hospital proprietor Dr Laishram Somen by unidentified individuals on Saturday evening, public outrage led to agitations on Sunday, including blocking half of the National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh Road) at Khangabok Bazar.
Protesters also threatened to boycott all armed groups in Khangabok area if those involved do not issue clarification within 48 hours.
According to family members of Dr Somen, around 8 to 9 well-armed persons showed up at the residence around 9 pm in a Maruti Gypsy vehicle, demanding the whereabouts of Dr Somen.
They threatened the family members at gunpoint and placed a hand grenade inside the house before leaving with four mobile phones of the family members.
Upon receiving the information, a team of Thoubal police station led by a sub-inspector arrived at the scene and removed the grenade from a table inside the house around 9:45 pm.
Following the incident, a sit-in protest was organised at Khangabok Bazar, where several resolutions were adopted.
Reading out the resolutions in before the media, Bangsibudon Youth Club advisor Kh Jibon said that the bomb threat is condemned in the strongest terms.
Those responsible for the act should clarify within 48 hours failing which all armed groups would be boycotted in Khangabok.
He also urged all groups across the state to extend support in this regard.
During the protest, the participants displayed placards inscribed with slogans suggesting that the armed groups target adversary elements, stop threaten ing civilians, respect basic principles of revolutionary organisations, etc.
