Imphal, May 26 2024:
Noting that significant number of the youth population of Manipur remain unemployed, Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) opined that prioritising development of the agricultural sector would be best practicable means to address problem.
Speaking at the closing function of a two-day training programme on mushroom plantation organised by FOCS Bishnupur District Committee at its Bishnupur bazar office, on Saturday, FOCS president Th Manihar expressed that lack of employment opportunities in public institutions as well as private sector is the primary reason for many people in Manipur struggling to make both ends meet.
As such niggling problem can be resolved only when the state becomes self-reliant and could create self-employment opportunities, rather than wait for the periodical recruitment in government undertakings, FOCS has been focusing on encouraging the youth to foray into the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
He also pointed out the need for the womenfolk to strive for generating income from their homes as well as in becoming job providers to contribute their mite in developing the local economy, which in turn will help Manipur prosper.
Confiding that objective for conducting training programme on mushroom plantation is to achieve the goal of a self-reliant economy, Manihar also appealed to the participants to put into action skills acquired during the training.
The training was participated by a total of 50 women trainees.
