Governor lauds, rewards IDP girl gymnast

Laiphrakpam Kiranmala Chanu, a gymnast who recently competed in the Inter SAI Artistic Gymnastic Tournament 2024 in Kolkata, along with her father and two others met with Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, here, on Thursday.
The family of the gymnast has been residing in a relief camp since last year due to the ethnic violence, and she was later admitted to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The Governor appreciated the talent of the 11-year-old gymnast and donated Rs 25,000 as a mark of appreciation.
Kiranmala and her father thanked the Governor for her love and support, according to a release issued by Raj Bhavan PRO.
Meanwhile, three transgender activists led by Malem Thongam met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and submitted a memorandum urging for priority on restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
They said that the state has been facing a 14-month crisis which is against the wishes of the citizens of the state and affecting people from all walks of life, including transgenders.
They asked the Governor for her support to which Anusuiya assured all possible support to the transgender people in the state.
Five members of All Manipur Teli Association led by its secretary Ashok Prasad Sahu also called on Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting her help in solving the Teli community"s grievances in the state.
Recalling their prior demands made in a memorandum submitted to the Governor in early May this year, Teli members stated that a number of issues have arisen as a result of the recent changes in the issuance of certificates such as PRC, ILP and others, which has posed a hurdle to the community.
They urged that the Governor direct authorities concerned in this matter.
While listening to their concerns, the Governor assured them of her full support to the community and asked them to submit copies of their grievances to the chief minister and the chief secretary, added the PRO.
