Tea seller, supplier of 'flood' sugar fined

Owner of a tea stall, who allegedly used sugar soaked in the recent flooding, and the person who supplied the contaminated sugar have been fined under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 .
Food Safety Officer, Imphal East submitted a report to the joint food safety commissioner/joint director (food safety) mentioning that FBO M/S Munnah Shah Tea Hotel in Mantripukhri, Imphal East was found selling un-sanitary and unhygienic confectioneries and other edibles using sugar that had been submerged in flood water and supplied by one Konjengbam Surjit of Khabam Lamkhai, Mantripukhri.
Accordingly, the tea stall owner identified as S Munnah Shah and Konjengbam Surjit were pulled up by a team led by Food Safety Officer, Imphal East.
The report also mentioned that Munnah violated Food Safety and Standard (Licensing and registration of food business regulation No 2.1.1.(4) while Surjit violated Section 31(2) (Licensing and registration of food business operators for selling food items without acquiring FS-SAI licence) of Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 .
After studying the report minutely, designated officer (food safety administration), Imphal East ordered Munnah to pay Rs 25,000 as penalty and Surjit slapped fine of Rs 10,000 .
